Buccaneer Days 2025

The midway has returned to Victoria, this time is set up in Esquimalt for Buccaneer Days. I went hoping there would be a crowd that would present opportunities for street photography (telling a narrative through multiple layers presented by an impromptu scene), but shooting street is tough, so I just settled for pretty pictures.
While having nothing to do with Esquimalt or midway rides, "Buccaneer Days" for whatever reason reminds me of the Warren Zevon song, "I'm Your Mutineer," particularly Bob Dylan's cover of it during his 2002 tour. Zevon, who died in 2003, by 2002 had publicly acknowledged his serious and terminal illness.
Zevon's last television performance was on David Letterman, in October 2002. It was an emotional night. Zevon played a number of his standards on his final show, including "Mutineer."
